  3. SEPARATED: art work produced to indicate separations of color areas; i.e., a separate layout for each color.
  4. CAMERA READY ART: the original design, completely finished as it is to appear in the reproduction. Must be furnished in black and white format.
  5. FINISHED ART: art that is complete in all respect; a true prototype of the anticipated reproduction; camera ready.
AUTOCLAVE
- An apparatus for sterilizing, using super-heated steam under pressure.
BLANKS
- The mold parts used in all glass container machines for preliminary formation of glass in preparation for the most efficient completion of glass containers in the finish molds where bottles are blown. The blank forms the parison; hence the parison itself is at times referred to as the blank.
BODY DIMENSION
- The width, thickness, diameter and height of a bottle including measurements, controlling contours or other physical dimensions.
CAPS
- Term used for metal or molded closures.
CLOSURE
- Any structure or device that is designed to close off the opening of a container and prevent loss of its contents.
CONTINUOUS THREAD (CT)
- A continuous spiral projecting glass ridge on the finish of a container intended to mesh with the thread of a screw type closure.
“D” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
“E” DIMENSION
- On a threaded bottle neck (finish), the diameter of the neck (finish) measured across the root of the thread.
EAR
- Name given the finger grip of pressed glass between the shoulder and finish of a ½ gallon, gallon, or other glass jug to facilitate holding the job.
“F” DIMENSION
– Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
FINISH
- The glass surrounding the opening in a container so called because when hand blown, it was the last part formed. It is now first formed but is shaped to accommodate a specific type of closure by pressure of the neck rings.
FLINT
- A glass industry term used to describe clear glass.
“G” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
GROSSAGE
- Quantity in terms of gross (144 each), usual denomination used in glass container terminology.
“H” DIMENSION
- The height of the bottle finish, measured from the sealing surface, in a line parallel to the axis of the finish and tangent to the threads on the finish, down to a point where the line intersects the body (shoulder) of the container. Also, the inside height of the closure, measured from the bottom of the closure, in a line tangent to the threads of the closure and terminating at the inside top of closure.
HEADSPACE
- The space between the level of the contents in the neck of a container and the closure. It is intended to furnish room for expansion of product due to heat or other action after packing.
“I” DIMENSION
- A specific minimum diameter inside the bottleneck. A minimum diameter is specified that will allow sufficient clearance for filling tubes to enter the bottleneck easily.
“I.D.”
- Abbreviation for Inside Diameter.
“J” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
“K” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
“L” DIMENSION
- Vertical distance from sealing surface to top part of neckband, i.e., where uppermost part of bead intersects container neck.
LIP
- The extreme outer edge of the top of a container intended to facilitate pouring.
“M” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
MOLD
- (Glass) A set of iron forms that are fastened on a bottle machine to provide a means of shaping a glass container. Parts of the set are tips, neck rings, blank molds, finish molds, and bottom plates with a plunger used in producing wide mouth containers.
MOLD NUMBER
- Number by which mold equipment is identified. It is used as exact glass container identification in ordering containers to be manufactured or shipped.
MOLD SEAM
- Slightly raised ridge on glass container caused by glass being blown into narrow space between edges of mold parts.
“N” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
NARROW MOUTH
- That finish of a glass container, the diameter of which is small relative to the diameter of the body.
NECK
- The portion of a glass container in which the shoulder cross sectional area decreases to join the finish.
NECK BAND
- A small protruding circle of glass on a glass container at the point where the neck meets the finish of the container.
NECK BEAD RING (OR BAND)
- Protruding ring just above the neck ring parting line necessary in the manufacturing of glass containers and specifically in transferring containers from blank to mold.
NECK RING
- That part of the mold equipment that forms the finish of the bottle.
“O” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension which is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
“O.D”
- Abbreviation for Outside Diameter.
OPEN STOCK
- Glass containers in factory inventory available for shipment to customers.
“P” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
PARISON
- The preliminary shaped red-hot glass that hangs from the neck rings as the blank molds open shortly after the molten glass has been sucked into these molds during the Owens machine manufacturing cycle. Also, called “pattern” or “blank”.
PARTING LINE (GLASS)
- The slight horizontal ridge formed by a surplus of glass blown into a worn crevice or joint between two parts of the mold equipment. These lines may occur on various areas of the container, such as between the neck ring and the plunger tip or guide ring, between the neck ring and blank or mold, and between the mold and bottom plate. (The vertical line formed by the joint between two halves of the same mold part is called a “seam”).
POUROUT FINISH
- A glass container finish with an undercut immediately below the top, so designed to facilitate pouring without dripping. It is used principally for prescription and drug and chemical containers.
“R” DIMENSION
- Specific finish dimension which part of a standard terminology used by the glass container industry.
“S” DIMENSION
- Locates the position of the bottle thread with respect to the sealing surface. It is the vertical distance from the sealing surface to the intersection of the finish wall and the top part of the first part of the bottle’s thread where full depth contour exists.
SCREEN PRINTING (ACL)
- A printing technique which involves the passage of a printing medium such as ink through a web or fabric, which has been stretched on a frame to which a refined form of stencil has been applied. The stencil openings determine the form and dimensions of imprint thus produced.
SEALING SURFACE
- The lip portion of the finish that makes contact with the sealing gasket or liner and forms a seal.
SHOULDER
- The portion of a glass container in which the maximum cross section area or body area decreases to join the neck of the container.
